Shamefully posting on Saturday instead of Friday, but it's been one of those weeks again.

Anyway.... that's it. We're done with Season 3 (as far as I see), and Josh is off to Discovery Channel. His new show should be out in the summer, but don't hold me to that. ^^ I don't think anyone is going to object if I keep this community posted on him, but if you have any feedback to the contrary, let me know!

Meanwhile, i'm going to keep following DFT and post what's gonna be on, and hopefully we'll hear soon about a new host and/or season.

This week's shows (all times EST):

Digging For The Truth : Hunt for the Lost Ark.
Airs on Monday April 23 08:00 AM

Digging For The Truth : The Real Sin City: Sodom & Gomorrah.

Another tiny tidbit, probably not anything of great significance, but still interesting:
There's an article in this month's National Geographic Adventure magazine (May) on Outward Bound and the role of their safety standards in the death of a teenage girl while hiking in Utah in 104 degree heat. BOSS is mentioned because the day after, one of their students died from (reportedly) heat-related causes.
The entire article is interesting for anyone who enjoys the kind of experience both schools offer; The entire magazine is great, too, if you like adventure travel.

That's it for now. It's gorgeous out this weekend, and my new boots are going on their first hike. :3 Happy Earth Day!

A little bit of a preview for you of Josh's upcoming Discovery Channel stuff... you think the weather is crummy in the Northeast (where I am :P)? Josh is at the North Pole:

...Josh Bernstein will be the host of "Josh Bernstein's Adventure," which will focus on landmark places throughout the world. Bernstein also will lead an annual Discovery-funded tour of the Earth's most endangered places with educators and others to raise awareness of the problems. Bernstein, who appeared at the upfront, took off Friday to the North Pole for an expedition of the Polar Ice Cap.

Entire article is here.

Discovery Green should be starting up soon (I keep seeing ads for it), but I don't know when Josh's show will actually premiere. Presumably this summer. ^^

Lots of wonderfulness to be had this weekend.. which translates to "a bunch of re-airing episodes". Which is good if, like me, face the possibility of yet another snowstorm to keep you from your outdoor funzies. But first:

The Aztecs: Of Blood and Sacrifice (New) Airs on Monday April 16 09:00 PM EST
The Aztecs were the largest civilization to ever rule Mesoamerica. Archaeology and modern science are now shedding new light on the blood rituals they practiced. Join host Josh Bernstein as he travels to Mexico City to investigate and use forensic science to examine the bones of sacrificial rituals. Next he'll try his hand at the weapons of the Aztecs, sample the potions of the priests and even cut through flesh using the technology of the ancients.

Oh dear. Will the San Pedro Cactus strike again? =X Should be a good one.

Digging For The Truth : Search for King David Airs on Saturday April 14 12:00 PM

Lost Treasures of the Copper Scroll (New) Monday, April 09 09:00 PM EST

In the depths of an Israeli cave, archaeologists found rolls of dusty manuscripts dating to the 1st century AD, and they are inscribed on a copper scroll! Scholars believe the copper scrolls represent a detailed treasure map--a list of hiding places where the priests of Jerusalem's Second Temple stored their most precious silver and gold artifacts during times of trouble. Join host Josh Bernstein in his search as he rappels into the caves outside Qumran. He then creates his own copper scroll, and uses ground-penetrating radar inside a newly excavated tunnel hundreds of yards beneath the ground.

Late night Easter Passover Treat!

Search for King David Airs on Sunday April 08 11:00 PM EST. (Matzo optional)

Have a good weekend, all. Happy Easter and (a continued) Happy Pesach to everyone who's celebrating!

Search for King David (New)Monday, April 02 09:00 PM EST

King David is the shepherd poet who slays the giant Goliath, according to the Old Testament. He then goes on to become the first king of a united Israel. Some scientists claim that the archaeological evidence appears to call the story into question; others believe they have already found the evidence to prove that it is true. Join host Josh Bernstein as he examines an ancient basalt slab inscribed with David's name, recreates his famous fight with Goliath, and descends through a secret waterway into the heart of Jerusalem.

This episode is gonna be Win.

Also, we have a couple of "Ancient Egypt" episodes for early risers on Sunday:

Cleopatra: The Last Pharaoh. Airs on Sunday April 01 09:00 AM
Nefertiti: The Mummy Returns. Airs on Sunday April 01 10:00 AM

Finally, something that has been in the news lately.. I don't know if it irks you, but it does me:

Peru opens bridge to Machu Picchu ruins

Public interest is a good thing for this and other sites. But when did it become about money? :/ The more people tramp through, the sooner there won't be any ruins left.

And...

Architect claims to solve pyramid secret

... this would make an interesting Josh Special for Discovery to do (nudge nudge, Discovery Channel), what with the on-site investigations and all. =D

Have a good weekend and watch out for April foolery. :3

A little something extra for you. :O

I was thumbing through my new issue of Budget Travel, and was caught off-guard by Josh's (grumpy-looking!) photo. BT interviewed him for their "Window or Aisle" Q&A, which can be found on their web site (the magazine has a little blurb leading you to it, hence the grumpy picture).

So Josh... window or aisle?

That's it. Enjoy tonight's new ep, too (yay, ritual sacrifice!).

Stonehenge of The Americas (New) Airs on Monday, March 26 09:00 PM EST

In the Bolivian Andes, a sprawling ancient city rests 13,000 feet above sea level. With its giant, freestanding monoliths and grand design, Tiwanaku has long been compared to Stonehenge. The two sites were built on opposite sides of the globe, but they both share a design that pays tribute to the sun. What's the "real" connection between Stonehenge and Tiwanaku? Flying out from La Paz, host Josh Bernstein tours Tiwanaku from both the air and ground. He harvests and transports the very stone used to build Tiwanaku and, he dives Lake Titicaca to explore evidence of a lost civilization.

Some news bittles for you. Oh boy!

HURRAY, a JOSH COMMUNITY! :D I almost started one a couple of months ago - then there was anti-DFT kerfluffle among LJ's archaeological contingent, and I decided instead to just back away slowly. Sigh! I really love this show, I think it approaches archaeology in an absolutely wonderful way, I think Josh is awesome, and I wish so much that people would just relax a little. Anyway! I'm so glad this is here now!

Is the plan to keep this comm going for season 4, with whoever the new host is, along with Josh's new stuff on Discovery?

Speaking of which, Josh posted a Final Post to his yahoo group tonight - are you guys members there? If you aren't, I guess it's too late now (sigh). Anyway, here's what he had to say (let me know if it's not cool to re-post this, or if it needs to go under friendslock - but since the yahoo comm has/had open membership, I can't imagine anyone would mind): The Final Post - 3/19/07Collapse )

Heh. Doof. *g*

What do you guys think about Josh leaving the show? I'm a little disappointed - but, you know, after reading his book, and noticing - have you noticed? - that he seems kind of (a lot) tired in season three, I completely understand his decision, and I really hope the gig at TDC turns out to be everything he's hoping for.

I loved tonight's episode, by the way. One of the best of the season, so far.

A little late this week but if you knew the week I've had, you'd understand! =)

"The Lost Treasures of Petra" (New) airing Monday, March 19 at 9:00pm EST.

The "red-rose" city of Petra stands as one of the most glorious and mysterious archaeological sites on earth. Created over 2,500 years ago, the ornate Petra cityscape was literally carved into the rose-colored walls of Jordan's Shara Mountains. The builders of Petra, the Nabataeans, were thought to be some of the wealthiest people ever to inhabit the Middle East, but they, along with their riches, simply vanished. What was Petra and could the Arabian site be still hiding precious treasure? Join host Josh Bernstein as he examines Petra's only surviving parchment manuscript, and goes underneath the ancient "Treasury" in search of hidden riches.

Have a good (if snowy, for of us in the Northeast) St. Patrick's Day!
